PERFORMANCE REVIEWS

GREENSBORO OPERA: HANSEL AND GRETEL

Joseph Newsome, Voix des Arts

"Adept in the High Point performance at imparting the put-upon mother’s exasperation, she enriched her characterization in Greensboro by also revealing the profound sadness and fear with which Gertrud contends, not least by sharpening her focus on the text. Her top B was splendid in the opening-night performance: in this final show, it was genuinely seismic."

GREENSBORO OPERA: HANSEL AND GRETEL

Joseph Newsome, Voix des Arts

"Gertrud is the opera’s most overtly Wagnerian character, and Swann supplied the evening’s most heroic singing. Her interactions with Hänsel and Gretel limned the overwhelmed but loving mother’s frustration, expressed in music spanning wide intervals that the soprano navigated intrepidly...Swann sang the rôle with sincerity rather than hysterics."

A LA CARTÉ, CONCERT SERIES

Tim Lindeman, Greensboro News & Record

"Soprano Lyndsey Swann spun out the long, lyric lines, and her singing became more and more beautiful through the course of the aria...Mezzo-soprano Clara O’Brien (the other co-founder of the series) joined the forces for a wonderful scene from the same opera. Alternating between stunning beauty and dramatic expression, the two singers matched each other exquisitely. Especially impressive was the fast filigree, challenging the two to sing completely in synch, which they did."

UNCG OPERA THEATER: DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES

Joseph Newsome, Voix des Arts

"Astonishingly comfortable across the large compass of the New Prioress’s music, soprano Lyndsey Swann was even at this early juncture in her career by no means an inadequate successor to the great ladies of the stage from whom she inherited Madame Lidoine’s habit...this compelling young artist unhesitatingly surrendered herself to Poulenc’s drama."
